Our story
USMIO was founded on a simple conviction: that people facing hardship deserve help that is practical, respectful, and delivered without conditions. We are a small, hands-on organization. Rather than working at a distance, we distribute directly, build relationships with the families and individuals we serve, and stay involved after the immediate need is met.
Our headquarters are in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where we serve local residents alongside partner organizations. We are registered as a Pennsylvania nonprofit corporation and recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, which means contributions to USMIO are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

To support vulnerable individuals and communities through humanitarian assistance, poverty relief, education, and community support — restoring dignity and creating opportunity for people who need it most.
What we believe
Dignity
Aid should never come at the cost of a person's self-respect. How we deliver help matters as much as what we deliver.
Transparency
Donors and grantmakers are entitled to know how funds are used. We keep organizational records and share them on request.
Partnership
We work with community organizations, congregations, agencies, and businesses rather than duplicating what already works.
Stewardship
We keep overhead low, prioritize in-kind sourcing and volunteer effort, and put contributions to work directly.
Our approach to impact
We measure our work by what actually reaches people: families supported, goods distributed, students assisted, and referrals completed. We track this through our own program records rather than estimates.
We publish impact figures only once they are verified from those records. You will not find inflated numbers on this site. If you are a donor, grantmaker, or partner and would like current programme figures, contact us at donate@usmio.org and we will share what we have.
Our approach follows four steps:
- Identify — we receive referrals from community members, partner organizations, and direct outreach.
- Assess — we confirm the need and determine what form of support is appropriate.
- Deliver — we provide goods, funds, or connections to services, usually in person.
- Follow up — we stay in contact to see whether the support achieved what it was meant to.
Trust and accountability
USMIO operates under the oversight of its board and executive leadership. Our Chief Executive Officer is Mutaz Kakish.
